Tricks are built from tricks
Many tricks are two simpler ones joined together. A varial kickflip is a kickflip with a backside pop shove-it. A hardflip is a kickflip with a frontside pop shove-it, and a 360 flip is a kickflip with a 360 pop shove-it. So the line under a trick often names what to learn before it.
Six kinds of trick
Flip tricks spin the board in the air. In a grind the trucks ride along an edge, and in a slide the board does. Airs are usually done on ramps, and so are lip tricks, which balance on the top edge of the ramp. Some freestyle tricks are done standing still.
Questions and answers
What skateboard trick should I learn first?
The ollie. It is a fundamental skill, and Wikipedia’s article says it is often the first one a new skateboarder learns, because most flip tricks depend on it.
What trick should I learn after the ollie?
Tricks that grow out of it. The basic flip tricks are the pop shove-it, the frontside pop shove-it, the kickflip and the heelflip. A 180, an ollie with a half turn of board and body, is another.
What do frontside and backside mean?
They say which way you face. In a frontside trick the front of your body faces the ramp or obstacle. In a backside trick your back faces it.
What do nollie, fakie and switch mean?
A nollie is an ollie done at the front of the board. Fakie means rolling backwards in your normal stance. Switch means riding in the stance opposite to your normal one.
What is the easiest trick on a ramp?
Wikipedia’s lists call the pivot the most basic lip trick and the rock to fakie a quick, common and easy one. Among airs, the frontside air is named as one of the easiest to learn.
