    Skit Idea of the day

    How it works

This random skit idea generator deals a short stage skit: a cast that starts with its number of actors, a place you can show with a few chairs and one thing that goes wrong. For camps, classes and youth groups.

    Read the full guide

Match the cast to your group

A skit dealt for fewer actors than you have still works: spare people play the crowd, the scenery or the sound effects.

From the premise to a skit

Open in the place, already busy, so nobody has to announce where you are. Bring the problem in early. Try to fix it and make it worse, twice. On the third try it works, or it fails in the biggest way yet, and everyone freezes: that is the ending. Give each actor one thing they want.

    • An odd pair, such as a zookeeper and two penguins on a crowded subway car, is the joke: play it as if it were normal.
    • No props needed: every problem here can be mimed, and a paper sign can name the place.

    Questions and answers

What is a good idea for a skit?

A small problem that keeps getting bigger. People the audience knows at a glance, a place they recognize and one thing going wrong give you a beginning, a middle and an end before anyone writes a line.

Are these skit ideas clean enough for a camp or a class?

Every line was written to be clean: no romance, no weapons, nothing frightening and no joke at one person's expense. A leader should still read a premise before a group performs it, since the three parts are joined by chance.

How many people do you need for a skit?

Two will do. The casts on this page run from 2 to 6 actors, and each one starts with its number. A bigger group can split a part in two.

Is this the same as an improv scene generator?

Close, but a skit is rehearsed. For a scene to act out cold, with two people and a twist, use the random scenario generator. This page deals a problem to stage, with a cast size, so a group can plan it.
