Superhero Idea Generator

One press gives a whole superhero idea: a power, its limit, an origin, a day job and a costume.

A hero who can ride on any shadow that is moving, but only while a radio is playing. It began with a sandwich left too long in a locker. By day: a seventh grader with a paper route. Always wears a vest covered in buttons.

Padlock: keep a part. Arrows: change only that part.

    Superhero Idea of the day

    How it works

This superhero idea generator writes one hero concept in a sentence: a power, the way it lets its owner down, where it came from, a day job and one costume detail. Every line is our own.

    Read the full guide

    Keep the part you like

Press New superhero idea. Tap a part to lock it, then press again to change the rest. Lock a power, such as lift anything by taking hold of its shadow, and reroll the limit: only while humming, it stops at sunset.

    Five parts of one idea

The power says what the hero can do and the limit says when it fails. The origin says how it began: a mislabeled jar at a science fair, an inherited coat. The day job and the costume, such as a cape cut from a picnic blanket or a bicycle helmet with a painted star, say who the hero is the rest of the week.

    Questions and answers

How do you come up with a superhero idea?

This page does it in five parts: a power, a limit on that power, an origin, a day job and a costume detail, each drawn at random from its own list. Press again for a new mix, or lock one part and change the others.

Can I use these superhero ideas in my own comic or story?

Yes. The lines were written for this page, and none names a hero, power or origin of a published comic, film or game. A short idea can still resemble an existing character, so look before you publish.

Does the superhero ideas generator give the hero a name?

No. This page deals the idea. The random superhero name generator joins a title, a power word and a role into a name, and the random superpower generator lists powers by kind, each with a catch.

Why does every hero here have a limit?

The limit is one of the five rows, so every result joins a power to one way it lets its owner down. Tap the limit to lock it and press again for a different power.

How this list was compiled: Our own list of 67 powers, written on 2026-10-03 to read after the words "A hero who can". No line names a hero, a power or an origin of a published comic, film or game: a script looked in every line for each character name linked from English Wikipedia's List of superhero debuts (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_superhero_debuts, read that day, CC BY-SA 4.0) and found none. Checked by script against every list on this site for repeats. 5 candidates were cut (5 on another list of this site), among them paint doors that open, trade sizes with any object they touch, outrun their own echo, build a bridge out of whatever is lying around, fill any room with the smell of fresh bread.
