Match the name to the board
Surf words are real surfing terms with their meanings. A longboard gets slow, roomy names, a fish gets small fish, a shortboard quick, sharp things and a foam board soft ones.
Name the whole quiver
A quiver is a surfer's collection of boards for different kinds of waves. Press again for each board and keep one theme if you like: every board a fish, or every board a surf word.

What does glassy mean in surfing?

How this list was compiled: 100 names for a surfboard. The 51 in the Surf words group are real surfing terms, each checked on 2026-10-03 against English Wikipedia's Glossary of surfing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_surfing; text CC BY-SA 4.0); the line on each gives the meaning in our words. The other names are our own, sorted by the kind of board, with what a fish, a longboard, a shortboard and a soft-top board are taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfboard, read the same day. What a line says about a real fish follows its English Wikipedia article (Sprat, Sardine, Herring, Smelt (fish), Stickleback, Whitebait, Common bleak, Skipjack tuna and Flounder). Glossary words about injuries and about being held under water were left out, and so was one phrase that is also the name of a surf-wear maker. Our own names were checked against a list of surfboard, wetsuit and surf-wear makers, against the product names that twenty makers list online, as far as each list could be read that day, and against the other lists of this site; about thirty first ideas were cut because they were a maker's nickname or a name a maker sells a board under, a name already on another list here, or awkward when the words run together. The surf words are real terms, and a few of them also stand on other lists here. Trade marks were not searched beyond that. Licence: own work
