When the three do not go together

Read the line under each topping: it names what we would order with it. Pear wants gorgonzola and walnuts, figs want prosciutto and goat cheese, and clams want fresh garlic and no tomato sauce.

Ordering for a group

Deal once for each half of the pizza. At a table that cannot agree, leave one half plain cheese and put the three toppings on the other.

  • No tomato sauce? Potato slices with rosemary, mushrooms with fontina, and spinach with ricotta all sit well on a white pizza.

Questions and answers

What pizza toppings go well together?

Pepperoni with mushrooms and black olives. Italian sausage with green peppers and red onion. Ham with pineapple and jalapeños. Spinach with ricotta and roasted garlic. Prosciutto with arugula and shaved Parmesan, both added after baking.

What are good vegetarian pizza toppings?

Mushrooms with spinach and roasted garlic, artichoke hearts with feta and Kalamata olives, eggplant with ricotta and fresh basil, or caramelized onions with goat cheese.

How many toppings should I get on a pizza?

Three is plenty: a meat, a vegetable and a finish such as hot honey or fresh basil. Fewer is fine. One good topping on a cheese pizza is still an order.

What goes with pineapple on pizza?

Something salty or something hot. We would order it with ham, bacon or Canadian bacon, or with jalapeños.
