What Should I Do for My Birthday? 302 Plans by Cost and Group Size: how it works
Asking what should I do for my birthday? Start by narrowing it. This page is for adults planning their own day: set where, who with, a cost and a milestone age, then press for five plans. Each card gives the group size it suits, a cost band per person and what to arrange ahead.
Four rows of chips that work together
Where: At home 143, Going out 178. Who: With friends 267, Solo 148, with 113 plans under both. Cost, a label on each card: Free 84, Low 135, Medium 50, High 33. Birthday: 18th, 21st, 30th, 40th and 50th, with 21 to 29 plans each. The rows narrow together, so Free plus At home plus 30th leaves 9. Under the tool, the full list shows every plan once, filed by At home or Going out.
A birthday goes wrong on logistics
What sinks a birthday is a lane that was never reserved or a table two seats short. So each card ends with what to arrange and roughly how far ahead, and 186 of the 302 plans say Nothing to book. You will find no prices, venue names or opening hours here, because those change from town to town.
Tips
The page opens on five plans. Cross off what the season rules out, lock one and press again.
Read the group size before you fall for a plan, then count heads before you reserve anything.
Save one plan at home and one out, so a wet forecast moves the day indoors without ending it.
Questions and answers
What should I do on my birthday if I have no money and no plans?
Set the Cost row to Free. Of its 84 plans, 75 need no booking either, so they still work if the day is tomorrow: Do-nothing day, Board game tournament, Sunrise somewhere with a view, Letter to yourself, to open next birthday.
What should I do for my 30th birthday?
Press 30th in the Birthday row. It draws from 29 plans: 11 written for turning thirty, such as Thirty things for your thirties and Lunch that runs into the evening, plus 18 that suit other milestones too. The other four ages are built the same way, and the 21st, like the whole list, is alcohol free.
What do free, low, medium and high cost mean?
They are our estimates per person, not quotes. Free needs nothing beyond what you own, low is under about 25 dollars, medium is about 25 to 75 and high is more. The page address keeps your filters, so you can send the narrowed page to whoever is helping you plan. Plans already seen on this device stay out of the draw until you press Start over.

How this list was compiled: Written for this site: every plan, group size, cost band and booking line is our own wording, and no list was copied. The list is for adults planning their own day. It holds no prices, opening hours or venue names, because those change and differ by town; a booking line says what to arrange and roughly how far ahead, and lead times such as a week or a month are our own rule of thumb, so check with the place you pick. Cost bands are our own estimates per person, not prices: free needs nothing beyond what you already own, low is under about 25 dollars a head, medium is about 25 to 75 dollars, high is more than that. Group sizes are our suggestion for what works, not a limit. The 18th, 21st, 30th, 40th and 50th chips each hold plans written for that age plus plans that fit any milestone; every plan on the 21st chip is alcohol free. One dated fact was checked on 2026-09-19: that you must be 18 years old on or before Election Day to vote in the United States, at https://www.usa.gov/who-can-vote. Left out on purpose: anything built on alcohol, gambling, heights, cold water, stunts or pranks, anything for children's parties, and anything that needs a price, a venue name or opening hours to make sense.
