Pick a Number 1-6: Shown as a Die Face, Same 1 in 6 Odds: how it works
Pick a number 1-6 with one tap and it shows as a die face. Each number has the same 1 in 6 chance, a fair stand-in for the die missing from the game box. Ask for several to roll more than one die, or switch repeats off to put six players in a random order.
When the die has gone missing
A fair die lands on each of its six faces equally often, and one pick here has those odds. Set how many to 2 for a pair of dice, with their sum shown underneath: 7 will be the most common total, because six of the 36 possible pairs make it, while 2 and 12 have one pair each. Keep repeats on, since two real dice can match.
Pick a number from 1 to 6 to decide something
Number your six options first, then press: six chores, six dinner ideas, six people. When a group asks you to pick a number between 1 and 6, the tool has no favorites and nobody can say you chose on purpose. For a turn order, set how many to 6 and switch repeats off: every number appears once, shuffled.
Tips
- On a real die the opposite faces add up to 7: 1 sits across from 6, 2 from 5 and 3 from 4.
- For a probability lesson, press 60 times and tally. Each number should land near 10 but rarely on it, and that gap is the lesson.
- The long-run average of a random number between 1 and 6 is 3.5, a value no single pick can show. Ask for 20 and read the average underneath.
Questions and answers
Is this a fair 1 to 6 random number generator?
Yes. Each press gives all six numbers an equal chance, and no pick depends on the one before, so three 4s in a row is luck, not a fault. The number is made in your browser and sent nowhere. Fine for games and chores, not for a draw with money at stake.
Is a random number 1-6 the same as rolling a die?
The odds are the same: six outcomes, each as likely as the others. Dice are far older than this page: a set dug up at the Burnt City site in Iran is thought to date from 2800 to 2500 BCE. A tap is quieter and cannot roll under the sofa.
Can 1 and 6 come up, or only the numbers in between?
Both ends count: pick a number between 1-6 here and 1 and 6 come up as often as 3 or 4. If a game needs 0 to 5, or 2 to 7, set your own range on the random number generator.
