Name a board game or a card game

Press New game name. Under Kind, choose Board game or Card game to keep to those kinds: this is a card game name generator too. Tap the title, the kind or the players to lock that part, then press again to change the rest.

    What the kinds mean

Each kind is a real game mechanic or family of games, explained in the list below. In a worker placement game, players take actions by placing worker tokens on spaces of the board. In a shedding card game, the first player to discard every card wins.

    Four shapes of title

The titles come in four shapes: a place, two things joined by and, a job, and one coined word.

    Tips
    • Lock the kind of game you are designing, then press until a title suits it.

    Questions and answers

What makes a good board game name?

On this page a title keeps to one of four shapes: a place, a pair of things, a job, or a single coined word.

Are these the names of real board games?

No. Each title was written for this page and checked against Wikipedia articles and lists on board games and card games. Small and new games are not on those lists, so a game with the same title may exist.

    What is a game mechanic?

Game mechanics are the rules that guide what players do and how the game responds. Worker placement, drafting and trick-taking are three, and a game can use more than one.

Can I use one of these names for my own game?

The titles were written for this page and are not registered to anyone by us. This page did not search trademarks, so it cannot say whether a title is free to use.

How this list was compiled: Made-up titles for a tabletop game, written for this page on 2026-10-02 in four shapes that game boxes use: a place, two things joined by and, a job, and one coined word. Each was checked by script that day against the titles of English Wikipedia articles on board games and card games, the text of its lists of board games, card games and card packs, every page title of English Wikipedia with and without The and with (board game), (card game) and (game) after it, and every list on this site, among them the real games on our board game page. 24 candidates were cut, among them Tidewrack, The Salt Road, Emberwick, Sparrow Hill, Windmill Row, The Lighthouse Keepers. Coined words were also checked against a dictionary and lists of names and places. Small and new games are not on those lists, and trademarks were not searched (https://en.wikipedia.org/, CC BY-SA 4.0). Licence: own work
