    Boy Band of the day

    How it works

This boy band name generator makes up a pop group for a story, a school show or a game: a name in one of four shapes and a line-up of five roles. No real group or singer is named.

    Read the full guide

The four shapes of a name

The names here come in four shapes, and the list under the tool is sorted by them: a number and a noun (Four Left Turns), a short phrase (Kings of Recess), initials with a number (L4R, short for Late for Rehearsal) and one bright word (Glowline).

    Cast the line-up

Press New boy band. Tap the name to lock it, then press again to recast the five roles. Each line-up says what the members do or wear: sing lead, dance, rap, write the songs, forget a jacket.

    Tips
    • For a class show, deal one band to each group of five and let them pick their roles.

    Questions and answers

How do you come up with a boy band name?

Pick a shape first: a number and a noun, a short phrase, initials or one bright word. Then say it the way an announcer would. If it sounds right before the words "live tonight", it works on a poster.

Are these the names of real boy bands?

Not that we could find. Every name was searched on Wikipedia, alone and with (band) or (group) after it, and against its pages on boy bands, and matches were left out. New groups form all the time, so search before you use one.

Why does every line-up have five members?

The line-up row is written for a group of five, with one role each. For a smaller group, give one member two roles; for a bigger one, press again and borrow from the next line-up.

    Does it name real singers?

No. The page names no real group, singer or record label. The roles are stock parts, such as the shy one, the dancer and the songwriter.

How this list was compiled: Our own list of 74 names in four shapes, written on 2026-10-02. Each number, phrase and one-word name was searched that day as an English Wikipedia page title with (band), (group), (boy band) and three more such endings after it, the number and phrase names as bare titles too, and every name against the 715 page titles in twelve Wikipedia categories of boy bands by country and as a phrase in its boy band article; 21 names had a match and were left out. Ten more were left out after a second search: names of real singing groups, a released single, a media brand, and names that sat close to a real group's. The initials are short forms of names on this list and were checked against those categories only, because any short run of letters stands for many things. No real group, member or label is named. New groups form all the time and a search of an encyclopedia is not a search of music services or trade marks, so look a name up before you use it. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled: Our own list of 40 line-ups, written on 2026-10-02. Each hands out five roles to five members. The roles are about what a member does or wears (sings, dances, writes, forgets a jacket), never about looks or who likes whom. No line describes a real group. Licence: own work
