    Eldritch Name of the day

    How it works

This eldritch name generator makes up a thing from beyond the stars for a horror story or a game: an invented name, all hard clusters and apostrophes, and a title such as the Unclosing Eye.

    Read the full guide

Name the thing, then give it a title

Press New eldritch name. Keep the name or the title and press again to change the other. Say the name aloud before you keep it: read an apostrophe as a short catch and a hyphen as a pause, so Uzgha'ath comes out in two breaths. The list below says what each title is said to do.

    What was left out

Every name and title is ours. Each name was checked against Wikipedia's pages on the gods and creatures of the best-known cosmic horror stories and against a fan wiki of them. A name that matched one, or came within a letter of one, was dropped.

    Questions and answers

    What does eldritch mean?

Eldritch means unearthly, supernatural or eerie. Horror writers use the word for things too old and strange to understand, which is the kind of thing this page names.

Is this an old god name generator too?

Yes, in the story sense. Each result reads as a made-up old god of cosmic horror: a name and a title for something from beyond the stars. None is a god of any faith or myth.

How do you pronounce an eldritch name?

However you like, since every name is invented. As a start, read an apostrophe as a short catch in the throat, a doubled vowel as a long one and a hyphen as a pause.

Can I use these names in my story or game?

Yes, at no charge. Each was searched on Wikipedia and on fan wikis and dropped on a match, but no list is complete and trade marks were not searched, so search a name before you publish it.
