Fantasy ranger names in three parts
Press New ranger name. Keep a byname such as Ashfollow and press for a whole company of wardens who share it, or keep the name and press until the habit suits the character.
Two kinds of byname
Trail names join two plain words for something the ranger does or carries, as in Greywhistle and Farsmoke. The others name a place the ranger keeps, as in of the Lower Track. Every first name is invented, so none belongs to a real language or people.
Questions and answers
What is a good name for a ranger?
A short first name and a byname that says how the ranger lives outdoors: Elowthorn Coldcamp, Tevreth of the Nine Fords. The habit then gives the character one thing to do in a first scene.
Can I use this as a hunter name generator?
Yes. A hunter, tracker, scout or warden of a fantasy world can take any result. The habits are about tracking, camping and knowing the land, and none describes a kill.
Is this a female hunter names generator too?
Yes. The first names are invented and carry no gender, so any of them suits a woman who hunts or tracks, and no byname or habit says he or she.
Are these names from a book or a game?
No. Each first name and joined byname was searched on Wikipedia and on fan wikis of games, books and shows, and a match was dropped. No list is complete, so search a name before you publish it.
