Give the demon a sin to match the story
The titles fall into eight kinds of trouble: greed, lies, rage, despair, plague, shadow, pride and chaos. Lock a name that sounds right, then press until the title fits your villain's plan, as in Vazkrul, Collector of Unpaid Debts for a deal gone wrong.
What was screened out
Every name was checked against the demons of old grimoires such as the Ars Goetia, against demons from Dungeons & Dragons, Diablo, Doom and other games and books, and against place names and every Wikipedia title. Titles avoid the names religions give the devil.
Questions and answers
Is this a random demon name generator for real demons?
No. Every name was invented for this page and screened so that it is not a demon of any religion, grimoire or well-known story. The harsh sounds, such as zh, kr and gr, are simply what makes a name feel demonic.
Can a demon have a name and a title?
In many stories it does: the name is secret and powerful, the title is what mortals call it. Keep the name hidden until the moment it matters, and let the title do the work before then.
Can I use these demon names in my book or game?
Yes, they are free to use. The screening cannot be complete, and trade marks were not searched, so search a name before you publish it.
How this list was compiled: Own list of 71 invented demon names, written for this page. Every name was screened by script on 2026-09-23 and dropped on any hit: the 403 words of the LDNOOBW English list (https://github.com/LDNOOBW/List-of-Dirty-Naughty-Obscene-and-Otherwise-Bad-Words) and about 90 more, read inside the name; the GeoNames cities15000 table with alternate names (https://download.geonames.org/export/dump/cities15000.zip); an English dictionary; every word of 61 English Wikipedia articles and lists of demons in religion, folklore and fiction, among them the Ars Goetia and The Lesser Key of Solomon, Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, the Dictionnaire Infernal, the list of theological demons, Paradise Lost, Dante's Inferno, the daevas, asuras, rakshasas and oni, the demons and devils of Dungeons & Dragons, Diablo, Doom, Warhammer's Chaos, World of Warcraft's Burning Legion, Supernatural, Hellboy, Shin Megami Tensei, Demon Slayer, Hazbin Hotel and Good Omens, each name alone and with -s; every English Wikipedia page title, alone and with -s; every name on this site's fantasy deity page; and every other list on this site. Ashkezar was written and then removed (a place name). A search cannot be complete, and trade marks were not searched. Licence: Own work.

How this list was compiled: Own list of 40 titles, each with what the demon tempts or does. Every title, with and without "the", was looked up as an English Wikipedia page title on 2026-09-23; "the Unbowed" was replaced because it is one. Titles avoid the names and epithets that religions give to the devil, such as Lord of the Flies or Father of Lies. Screening of the names is described under the Name row. Licence: Own work.
