Class Name Generator

One press invents a class for a role-playing game: a name, a role, a signature ability and its price.

Hushshaper: strikes from far off. Signature: sends their shadow across a gap and follows it. The price: dreams someone else's dream that night.

Padlock: keep a part. Arrows: change only that part.

    Class of the day

    How it works

This class name generator invents a class for a fantasy role-playing game: a joined name such as Ashcaller or Loomscribe, the role it fills in a party, one signature ability and the price of using it.

    Read the full guide

A fantasy class name generator in five parts

Press New class name. The name is two halves joined, the role says what the class does for a party, and the last two parts are one thing it can do and what that costs. Tap a part, press its padlock, then press again. Lock the second half and every press gives a sister class.

    Roles first, then flavor

The roles are plain: one class holds the line, another scouts ahead, controls the field or keeps the party on its feet. Lock a role your game lacks and press until a name fits it. The abilities carry no numbers, so they suit any rule set.

    Questions and answers

Is this a class name generator for a school class?

No. It names a made-up class of character for a role-playing game, such as Hollowspeaker. It does not name a classroom, a course or a group of students.

What roles can a class have in a role-playing game?

The Role row has plain ones: holds the line, keeps the party on its feet, scouts ahead, controls the field, strikes from far off, shields allies, speaks for the party and more. They are everyday words, not one game's terms.

Are these classes from a real game?

None that we found. Each joined name was checked against Wikipedia page titles, a search of its text and the wikis of published role-playing games, and a name found there was taken out. Search a name before you publish it.

Can I use a class in my own game or story?

Yes. The names, abilities and prices are our own and carry no rules, so you can write the numbers yourself. An ability such as "turns a shout into a shove" is a starting point, not a finished rule.
