How it works

No dominoes in the house? Each press draws tiles from a double-six set, the double blank up to the double six, and no tile comes back until the whole set has been dealt. The page opens on a hand of seven.

Deal a hand

Seven tiles is the hand each player draws in the basic game for two, so the first press deals yours and the next deals the other hand. Four presses use up the set. Under the list, Show 1 turns a single tile from the boneyard, the face-down pile that is left, and a second tap gives a hand of 5.

Read a tile

Each tile is named by its two ends, larger first: 6-4 has six pips on one end and four on the other. A blank end counts as 0. A double carries the same number twice.

Tips
  • To choose who starts, each player can draw one tile: the higher pip total goes first.

Questions and answers

How many dominoes are in a double-six set?

28: one tile for every pair of the numbers 0 to 6, a number paired with itself included. That makes 7 doubles and 21 tiles with two different ends, with 168 pips in all.

How many dominoes does each player draw?

In the basic game for two, each player draws seven tiles and the rest stay face down as the boneyard. With four players and seven tiles each, the whole set is dealt.

Can the same domino come up twice?

Not until all 28 have been drawn. The page keeps track of what it has dealt, as if the tiles had left the boneyard, and then starts a fresh set.

How this list was compiled

The 28 tiles of a double-six set, made by script and never typed: one tile for every pair of the numbers 0 to 6, a number paired with itself included. Checked by the same script: 28 tiles, none twice, 7 doubles, 6 tiles with one blank end, 15 with two different numbers, and 168 pips in the whole set. Each tile is named by its two ends, larger end first; a blank end is written 0. The drawings are our own, made by the script from the two numbers with the pips laid out as on a die. Read on 2026-09-30 at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominoes : the traditional set "consists of 28 tiles", it is called a double-six set "because the highest-value piece has six pips on each end", the spots are also called pips, an end can be blank, and in the basic game for two "each player draws seven tiles from the stock", which is also called the boneyard.
