    Robot of the day

    How it works

This robot name generator labels a made-up robot the way a workshop might: a series code that stands for something, a number, a given name in quotation marks, and a job or a real kind of robot.

    Read the full guide

    Read the code

Each series code stands for the work the line was built for, and the list under the tool spells it out: KT is kitchen and table service, LB is library and book return. Tap the code to lock it and press New robot name for more units of one series.

Where the word robot comes from

The word robot reached English through R.U.R., Rossum's Universal Robots, a 1920 play by the Czech writer Karel Čapek; in Czech, robota means forced labor. The last row mixes made-up jobs with real kinds of robot, such as a rover or a cobot, each explained in the list.

    Tips
    • A cobot is a collaborative robot, one meant to work close beside people.
    • Lock the given name and press again until the code and the job suit it.

    Questions and answers

What is a good name for a robot?

Two names: a designation that sounds as if it was stenciled on a crate, and a short name people actually call it. KT-7 is the label. Fizzlet is who it is.

Is this also an android name generator?

Yes. An android is a humanoid robot, and it is one of the real kinds in the last row. Lock that row on android and every press names another one.

Can I use it as a cyborg name generator?

Yes. Give a cyborg in your story the code and number as a works label and the quoted name as what friends say. Then lock a job in the last row that suits them.

Are these the names of robots from films or games?

No. Every code, number and name was checked against Wikipedia's lists of fictional robots, androids, cyborgs and computers, and anything found there was cut. Search a name before you publish it.

How this list was compiled: Our own list of 43 two-letter series codes, each with what its letters stand for, written on 2026-10-02. Checked by script that day against the text of the English Wikipedia lists of fictional robots and androids, of fictional cyborgs and of fictional computers: a code that appears there in front of a number, or by itself as a name, was cut. 3 candidates were cut (2 a Wikipedia page title; 1 taken out on a second reading), among them PX, DS. How this list was compiled: 42 unit numbers in the forms a works label takes: plain numbers, numbers with a leading zero and numbers with a letter. Our own choice; the numbers of the best-known robots of film and television were left out, and each code with each number was searched by script in the Wikipedia lists named in the series source. Two candidates were cut: 5 (a name from published fiction, or one letter from it) and one taken out on a second reading. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled: 57 names an owner or a crew might give a robot, our own list written on 2026-10-02. Checked by script against every list on this site and its sister sites, the robot vacuum names among them, and against the names in the English Wikipedia lists of fictional robots and androids, cyborgs and computers; a name found in either place was cut, and so was a name that an English Wikipedia page title gives to a character. 33 candidates were cut (27 on another list of this site; 3 a Wikipedia page title; 2 a rude word inside or across the join; 1 a fan wiki page title), among them Tinsel, Juniper, Biscuit, Bobbin, Thimble, Nutmeg.
