How it works
This winter color palette generator deals one palette a press: five named colors as a swatch with their hex codes, for a card, a room, a slide deck or a knit.

Read the swatch left to right
The line under each palette names its five colors in the order of the bands, and the hex codes run the same way. Copy takes the palette name and all five codes.
Six kinds of winter
After the first press, open the list under the button: Icy blues and silver, Evergreen and berry, Snow-day neutrals, Winter sunset, Deep jewel tones or Cool and clear.
Light ground, dark type
Most palettes hold one near-white and one near-black, so there is a ground and a text color in every draw. Fresh Snowfall and Chimney Smoke are all neutrals; Cathedral Window is the loudest.
Tips
- Press again inside one group to compare two palettes of the same mood side by side on paper.
Questions and answers
What colors go in a winter color palette?
Icy blues with silver and white; evergreen with berry red; soft grays and wool neutrals; dusk pinks over dark blue; and deep jewel tones such as burgundy, emerald and sapphire. Each of those is a group on this page.
What are the hex codes for icy blue?
On this page Alice blue is #F0F8FF, Powder blue is #B0E0E6 and Light steel blue is #B0C4DE, as Wikipedia's list of colors gives them. Each palette prints its own five codes under the color names.
What is in the Cool and clear group?
Palettes built on black, white and cool, clear colors: a strong blue, a cold red, emerald, fuchsia, icy lilac. None of them holds a warm gold or an orange.
Can I use these colors for paint, yarn or fabric?
Yes, as a starting point. The codes are screen colors, so match paint, yarn or fabric to them by eye.
