How it works
This pastel color palette generator deals one palette a press: five named colors as a swatch, with their hex codes and a line on where the set suits.

Read the card
The line under the palette's name lists its five colors in the order of the bands and of the hex codes. Press Copy to take the name and the codes.
What counts as pastel here
Pastels are pale: in the HSV color model they have high value and low or medium saturation. Our test asks for a value of 75 percent or more and a saturation from 10 to 45 percent. In the group With one dark accent, the fifth color breaks the rule on purpose.

Tips
- Text set in a pastel is hard to read on white. Use the palette for backgrounds and shapes, and set words in a dark color.
Questions and answers
What makes a color pastel?
A pastel is a pale color with high value and low or medium saturation in the HSV color space. Pink, mauve and baby blue are common pastels, as are mint green, peach, periwinkle, lilac and lavender.
Does the pastel colour palette generator give hex codes?
Yes. Every palette prints its five hex codes under the color names, in the order of the bands, and Copy takes them with the name. The codes are the ones Wikipedia's list of colors gives for those names.
Why does one palette have a dark color in it?
Palettes in the group With one dark accent hold four pastels and one dark color, such as navy blue or charcoal, for lettering or an outline. Choose another group to get five pastels every time.
Can I use a palette in my own design?
Yes. The palettes are our own groupings of named colors, for a card, a room, a chart or a website. Check them on the screen or paper you will use, since colors shift between devices.
