    Airline Name of the day

    How it works

This airline name generator makes up an airline for a story or an airline-management game: a name, a kind such as Airways or Air Cargo, and a radio call sign.

    Name an airline

Press New airline name. Tap the name, the kind or the call sign to lock it, then press again to change the rest.

    What a call sign is

Most airlines have a call sign that is spoken on the radio, in front of the flight's own number or letters. In Wikipedia's lists of airline codes it is often a different word from the airline's name. The call signs here are made up.

    For stories and games

The names are for fiction. They were checked against lists of real airlines, and not against business registers or trademarks.

    Questions and answers

    Are these real airlines?

No. Every name was checked, alone and with each kind, against Wikipedia's lists of airline codes, its airline articles and its text, and matches were dropped. Small operators are not all on those pages, so a real company may share a name.

What is an airline call sign?

It is the word or words spoken on the radio to identify an airline's flights. Wikipedia's lists of airline codes give one beside most airlines, in a column headed telephony designator.

What is the difference between Airways and Airlines?

On this page both are plain endings for a made-up airline, and neither says what it flies. Air Cargo, Air Charter, Air Taxi and Regional do, and the list below explains each.

Can I use one of these names for a real airline?

This page cannot tell you whether a name is free to use. The names are made up for stories and games and were not searched in any business register or trademark database.

How this list was compiled: Made-up names for an airline in a story or a game, written for this page on 2026-10-02. Each was checked by script that day, alone and with every kind on this page, against the airline column of the 27 pages of English Wikipedia's List of airline codes, which keeps past assignments too (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airline_codes), against the titles of the English Wikipedia articles that carry its airline infobox, and as a page title of English Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). 32 candidates were cut, among them Pelican, Osprey, Goldcrest, Altair, Zephyr, Polaris, Borealis, Nimbus. In a second pass each name was searched in the text of English Wikipedia with Air, Airways, Airlines, Aviation, Express, Regional, Airlink and Seaplanes after it, and ten more names went: Tamarind (an airline on the List of airlines of Kenya), Sandpiper (the airline of a television comedy, and a seaplane company), Wagtail, Contrail and Thermal (aviation companies named in airport articles), Vermilion (a regional airport), Leeward (the first word of a real airline's full name), Daybreak (with Express, the name of a jazz piece and a film), Clear Air (it doubled the word Air) and Kite String (in a name on another list of this site). Small operators are not all on those pages, and no business register or trademark database was searched, so a real company may use one of these names. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled: Made-up radio call signs, written for this page on 2026-10-02. A call sign is the word an airline's flights are called by on the radio (English Wikipedia, Airline codes, Call signs; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline_codes, read that day). Each was checked by script against the telephony designator column of the 27 pages of English Wikipedia's List of airline codes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airline_codes; 5739 call signs read) and against the airline names. 14 candidates were cut: Songbird, Sunflower, Top Hat, Harvest Moon, Sea Glass, Tree Frog, Sea Otter, Red Squirrel, Barn Owl, Blue Whale, Snowy Owl, River Otter, Mountain Goat, Polar Fox. Five more went in a second pass: Bluewing (two airlines are named Blue Wing and Blue Wings), Firefly Lane and Kingfisher Blue (each opens with a real call sign, and the first is the title of a television series), Paper Kite and Night Heron (in items on other lists of this site).
