Question of the day

Random Question of the Day: The Same Question for Everyone: how it works

This page's random question of the day is the same for everyone on the same date, so a team, a club or a group chat can all answer it. Find it, with the date, in the Question of the day strip under the tool. The large card is a random draw from the same 366 work-safe questions, and New question deals another.

How the daily question is chosen

The page reads today's date from your device and uses it to pick one question from a shuffled order of all 366. The pick is worked out in your browser, so there is no sign-in and no account. It changes at your local midnight, and no question returns until all 366 have had a day. The strip shows the question alone; its follow-up is in the full list at the bottom.

A random question of the day for work

Paste today's question into the team chat before standup and let people answer in a thread, or read it out and go round the call. Team cards say "this group", never "this company", so a club or a household can answer them too. Tastes cards are the fast ones, such as your favorite pasta shape. Nothing touches money, health, looks, romance, politics or religion.

Tips

  • If you lead the meeting, answer first. A short, honest answer from you sets the length for everyone else.
  • Post the card at the same time each day, so nobody has to remember whose turn it is to find a question.
  • Planning a week of standups? Set the count to 5 on Monday and copy the five cards into your notes.

Questions and answers

Does everyone really see the same question?

Yes, on the same calendar date. The pick depends only on the date, so two people in one room always match. Someone far to the east may already be on tomorrow's question. For a group across time zones, paste the question into the chat instead of sending the page.

What if today's question does not suit my group?

Press New question. It draws at random from whichever chip is selected and leaves today's question alone. Before you skip a card, try its follow-up: it asks for a story or an example, which often rescues a one-word answer. Tap the heart on the ones that worked to keep them for later.

Are these the same as your other question lists?

No. None of the 366 appears on the random question generator or on the couples and kids lists. This list was written for groups that meet often: more about routines and how a group runs, nothing that needs a long answer, and nothing you would mind answering in front of a manager.

How this list was compiled: All 366 questions and their follow-ups were written for this page by the Random Generator HQ editors; none is copied from another list, and none appears on our general, couples or kids lists (compared by script on 2026-09-19). Every question is work-safe: a colleague can answer it aloud in under a minute, it needs no special knowledge, it does not ask about money, health, bodies, looks, romance, politics, religion or a painful memory, and it names no brand, show, game or living person. Work-safe does not mean work-only: because the daily pick draws from the whole list, no card assumes the people answering share an employer. Team cards say 'this group', so a club, a household or a group chat can answer them as easily as a team at work. No card asks for the kind of detail used as an account security answer, such as a street, a first pet, a first school or a favorite team. The four groups are our own sorting: Team (92), Tastes (92), Memories (91) and What if (91). 366 is one question for every day of a leap year: the daily pick works through a shuffled order of the whole list, so no question returns until all 366 have had a day. The questions have no right answer, so they need no fact-checking, and the page copy cites no outside fact. First written 2026-09-18. Second pass 2026-09-19 by the Random Generator HQ review desk, separate from the first write: every question and follow-up was read again for sense, safety and duplicates of idea; 117 cards were reworded or replaced, most of them to stop assuming a workplace or to give a two-word follow-up something to ask.
