One country, three name stocks
Names can be drawn by Language region. Noah led for boys born in 2025 in German-speaking Switzerland, Gabriel in the French-speaking region and Leonardo in the Italian-speaking one. A card gives a name's place in each region where it stood in the top 50.
Names of every age
Whole country, all ages keeps the 150 most common women's and men's names among residents in 2025. Each card names the decade most bearers were born in: Ursula the 1950s, Urs the 1960s, Reto the 1970s.
30 first names carry an accent, such as Amélie and Raphaël; the card adds the plain spelling.
The office counts each spelling by itself, so Amélie and Amelie are two cards.
The 9 family names, the three commonest of each region, are a sample of the Swiss last names page.
Questions and answers
What are common Swiss names?

What are the most popular baby names in Switzerland?

The office sorts the country into four language regions and ranks names in each by itself. This page holds the top 50 of the German-, French- and Italian-speaking regions; the small Romansh-speaking region is left out.
Are these real Swiss names?
Yes. Every name and place is from open data of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, read on 3 October 2026. The tables count residents, whatever their citizenship. Names are single: no card pairs a first name with a family name.

How this list was compiled: Built on 3 October 2026 from open data of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO), read that day. (1) 'First names of newborns by language region and canton', year 2025, for girls (https://www.bfs.admin.ch/asset/en/DF_BEVNAT_PRENOMS_2) and for boys (https://www.bfs.admin.ch/asset/en/DF_BEVNAT_PRENOMS_1): every name that stood in places 1 to 50 for girls or for boys in the German-speaking, the French-speaking or the Italian-speaking region, with names tied at the last place kept (100, 102 and 118 names; the Italian-speaking region is small, so many names tie). The Romansh-speaking region, with a few dozen ranked names, is left out. (2) 'First names of the population by year of birth', 2025, for women (https://www.bfs.admin.ch/asset/en/ts-x-01.04.00.10) and for men (https://www.bfs.admin.ch/asset/en/ts-x-01.04.00.11): the 150 first names with the most bearers of each sex among residents, added up by us over all years of birth, and for each the decade in which more of its bearers were born than in any other. (3) Family names: the three commonest of each of the three regions in the office's 'Last names of the permanent resident population by language region', 2025 (https://www.bfs.admin.ch/asset/en/ts-x-01.04.00.16), as this site's Swiss last names page lists them; a sample of 9, since that page holds the long list. 473 names: 228 for girls and women, 237 for boys and men (Andrea is on both lists and is one card), 9 family names. A name that is on more than one of these lists is one card that carries each fact. Places are the office's own for newborns and our count of its figures for the population. The tables count residents, whatever their citizenship, so the lists hold names of many languages. Each spelling is counted by itself (Amélie and Amelie are two names); 30 names carry an accent and their cards add the plain spelling. No meaning is printed: these sources record none. No speaker of German, French or Italian has read the list. Licence: Federal Statistical Office (FSO), Switzerland, open government data: free use with the source named (opendata.swiss terms of use, 'BY'). The totals over years of birth, the decades and the wording of the cards are our own work.
