Five of these six pages draw names that real people carry, and each one says which public record the names came from. The surname page holds 1,997 US last names from the 2020 Census, each with its rank and the number of people counted with it. The girl and boy name pages draw from the Social Security Administration's baby name counts, so every name comes with its place in the US rankings. The book character page pairs a first name from those records with a census surname and lets you lock either half. The Japanese name page shows 759 names in romaji and kanji with a kana reading, and says how common a family name is or in which decades a given name was popular, going by a Japanese insurer's surveys of its own customers. The car name page is the odd one out: those names are made up here and sorted by paint color, mood and vehicle. No page prints a name meaning, because none of these records gives one. On five of the pages you choose how many names you want and narrow the draw by first letter; the book character page draws one full name at a time.
