Questions and answers
What is my unicorn name?
Take the word for the first letter of your name, then the word for your birth month. A name that starts with L and a birthday in October make Lilac Moonshadow.
How do the two lists work?
The first list has one word for every letter from A to Z. The second has one word for each of the twelve months. Your initial picks the first word and your birth month picks the second.
Is there a unicorn name generator free printable?
Yes. The print button gives a sheet of twenty unicorn names. To take the letter and month lists to a party, print this page: both lists sit under the tool.
Are these names from a cartoon or a toy?
No. The words were chosen for this page. Each was checked against Wikipedia's lists of made-up horses and toy ponies, and every pair was searched as a name; words that matched were swapped. Plain words such as Willow turn up in other stories too.
How this list was compiled: Our own list of 26 first words, one for each letter of the alphabet, chosen on 2026-10-02: plants, stones, colors and small things a child can read. Each line says which first initial the word is for. Screened by script that day so that no unicorn of a cartoon or a toy line is dealt: a word was passed over if it stands anywhere in the text of four English Wikipedia pages (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_horses, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_My_Little_Pony_characters, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_My_Little_Pony:_Friendship_Is_Magic_characters, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicorn); every word and every name the two rows can spell was looked up as a page title on a fan wiki of a toy pony line (https://mlp.fandom.com); every name the two rows can spell was looked up as an English Wikipedia page title, and so was each word on its own; and a rude-word list was read across each name. Words passed over: A: Amber, Apricot, Acorn; B: Breeze; C: Clover; D: Daisy; E: Ember, Echo; F: Feather; G: Ginger, Glitter; H: Honey; I: Ivy, Iris, Indigo; J: Juniper, Jade; K: Kiwi; L: Lemon; M: Meadow, Marigold (a unicorn in a children's comic strip has the name); O: Opal, Olive, Orchid; P: Pepper; Q: Quartz; R: Ripple, Robin, Raspberry; S: Saffron; T: Topaz; U: Ursa; V: Velvet, Violet; June: Sunbeam; July: a made-up word that turned out to be a name in a cartoon; August: Sunflower; November: Chestnut, and a made-up word that is the name of a company; December: Twinklehoof. Plain words that are also used in other stories, such as Willow, Zephyr and Snowbell, were kept. Licence: own work
