    How it works

This post apocalyptic name generator names a survivor for a story or a game set after the end of the world: a name they earned or kept, a job, the settlement they come from and what people call the end.

    Read the full guide

    Four parts in one line

Press New survivor name. You get a line such as "Young Pell, a signal keeper from Hangar Six. Born after the Third Winter." Tap a part to lock it, then press again: keep Lantern Row and every press adds a neighbor, or keep one name and move them from town to town.

What the names are made of

Survivor names are tools, scrap and plants (Tally), or a title on a made-up name (Old Marlow). Settlements are named for what was left standing: Hangar Six, Boxcar Row. Jobs are the ones a rebuilt world needs.

    Tips
    • Lock The end for a whole cast, so everyone in one story was born after the same event.

    Questions and answers

Can I use this as an apocalypse name generator?

Yes. The last part names the apocalypse itself, as the people who lived through it would: the Third Winter, the Great Unplugging, the Big Hush. Lock the other three parts and press to see only new names for the end.

What is a good name for a post-apocalyptic character?

This page gives short names that sound earned: the tool a person carries, the scrap they sort or the plant they grow, or a plain title such as Doc, Granny or Captain in front of a made-up name.

Do the names come from a game or a film?

No. Every row was written for this page and checked against the fan wikis of well-known wasteland games, films and shows; a name that was a page title there was cut.

The names of two words or more were afterwards looked up as English Wikipedia page titles (https://en.wikipedia.org/): Half-Pint, Lucky Nine and Never-Lost were cut as titles there, and Tinder and Hinge on a second reading.
