Random Breakfast Generator: 100 Breakfasts From Toast to Tapsilog: how it works

Half awake and out of ideas is what this random breakfast generator is for. It draws one breakfast from 100: eggs most ways, toast and pastries, porridge and pancakes, and 69 dishes whose card names their home. A badge gives the rough time, and four rows of chips narrow the draw together.

A weekday draw and a weekend draw

On a working morning tap Quick weekday: those 59 take 15 minutes or less, or come ready from a bakery. No-cook narrows it to 24 that need nothing beyond a toaster, a kettle or a blender. Weekend cook holds the 36 that take 20 minutes or more, from a Dutch baby pancake to a full Irish. The rows stack, so Quick weekday with Egg dishes leaves 18, and Up to 5 minutes leaves 17 of the 100.

What the world eats before noon

Around the world marks 69 breakfasts whose card names where they belong. Some are national dishes: mangú in the Dominican Republic, mohinga in Myanmar, gallo pinto in both Nicaragua and Costa Rica. One carries a rule: Bavarians say Weisswurst should never hear the noon bells. In Italy the most common breakfast is a cornetto and a cappuccino at a coffee bar.

Tips

  • Bored of the same eggs? Tap Egg dishes: 28 ways, from soldiers to çılbır.
  • Five cards end in One to eat out, mohinga and jianbing among them: a reason to find the café that makes them.
  • Feeding a household? Draw 5 on Friday night and let everyone strike one out. Shop for whatever survives.

Questions and answers

What do Quick weekday and the minutes on the badge mean?

Quick weekday means 15 minutes or less, or bought ready. The minutes are our own estimates for one or two portions in a home kitchen, and a few lean on a shortcut the card spells out, such as leftover rice or tinned ackee. Overnight oats and Bircher muesli count the minutes of work, not the night in the fridge.

Are the places and dates on the cards checked?

Yes. Every country, city, date and name was read against the dish's English Wikipedia article on 18 September 2026. Where the article hedges, so does the card: eggs Benedict is believed to be from New York, and loco moco reportedly began in Hilo in 1949. Anything we could not confirm was left off.

Can I plan a week of breakfasts with it?

Set the count to 5, tap Quick weekday and press. Lock the rows you like and press again: locked breakfasts stay put and the rest are redrawn. The picker does not show the same breakfast twice until it has been through the whole list.

How this list was compiled: We wrote the list of 100 breakfasts ourselves. What goes into each dish, and every place, date and name on a card, was checked on 2026-09-18 against the dish's English Wikipedia article, read through https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php (article index: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_breakfast_foods). The plan also named USDA MyPlate Kitchen, which refused automated reading on that date, so nothing here is drawn from it. Times are our own estimates for one or two portions in a home kitchen, and the Quick weekday (15 minutes or less, or bought ready), Weekend cook (20 minutes or more), No-cook (nothing beyond a toaster, kettle or blender) and Sweet and Savoury tags are our own grading. Around the world marks the dishes whose card names the country or region they belong to. The kaya toast, tamago kake gohan and ackee and saltfish lines were read again on 2026-09-19: kaya toast is placed in Singapore and Malaysia, tamago kake gohan says to use pasteurised eggs because the egg is eaten raw, and the ackee is given as tinned, which is how it is exported. x.mins repeats x.time as a number of minutes.
