For a road trip out of Phoenix
Maricopa County has 24 of the 91 places, so an open draw lands near Phoenix about one time in four. Choose another county to get away from it. All 15 counties are there, and Greenlee, La Paz and Santa Cruz Counties have two places each.
For a quiz on Arizona's counties
Two names set a trap. Maricopa, a city of 78,362 people, is in Pinal County, and the town of Pima is in Graham County. Only Yuma shares a name with the county it is in. Sedona and Queen Creek each sit across a county line, so their cards say mostly in.
- Gilbert is a town, yet with 287,285 people it is Arizona's fourth largest place, ahead of Chandler, Glendale and Scottsdale.
Questions and answers
How many cities and towns does Arizona have?
The Census Bureau's 2025 estimates count 91: 46 cities and 45 towns. San Tan Valley in Pinal County became a town in September 2025, which makes 92, but it has no estimate in the file yet and so no card.
Can I get a list of random cities in Arizona?
Yes. Every press deals five at once, and no place comes round again until all 91 have had a turn. Copy the list or print it to keep it.
What is the smallest town in Arizona?
Winkelman, in Gila County, with 290 people in the 2025 estimates. Jerome in Yavapai County is next with 452, then Hayden with 510 and Tusayan with 581.
Why is Sun City not on the list?
Sun City, Casas Adobes and Catalina Foothills have no city or town government, so the Census Bureau counts them as census designated places. They have no row in the city estimates and no card here.
