    How it works

This dwarven city name generator joins a hard opening for stone, metal or a deep place to an ending for what was built there. Harg is iron and -ek a forge, so Hargek is the iron forge.

Press, then lock the part that fits

Press New city name. Four rows fill: the two halves of the name, the rock the city is carved into, and what it mines or makes. Tap any row to lock it. Lock -ek, a forge, for a string of forge cities, or lock the rock and reroll the name.

    What each half means

Openings come in three groups: stone, metal and fire, and deep places. Endings name what the dwarves built: a hall, a hold, a gate, a mine. The list under the tool gives every meaning, so Dolmirk reads as the standing-stone watch. All of it is invented for this page.

    Tips
    • A city called the iron forge can still be known for cheese. That mismatch is a story.
    • A short name is easier to shout down a tunnel. Two syllables is plenty.

    Questions and answers

How do you name a dwarven city?

Start with what the city was dug into or what it works, then add the thing built there: a hall, a hold, a forge. Keep the sounds short and hard, with k, g, d, r and z.

What is a good name for a dwarven city?

One that says what the place is. Krondeld, the pillar hearth, suits a capital. Hargek, the iron forge, suits a working town. Lock an ending to choose the kind of place first.

Are the names from a book or a game?

No. Every part was made up for this page. The endings -dor, -rim and -heim are left out because published worlds use them, and names found in Wikipedia titles or on fantasy fan wikis were cut.
