Match the surname to the magic
Surnames come in four kinds: fire and candlelight (Emberwick, Cindercloak), stars, moon and weather (Moonbarrow, Stormhallow), books and ink (Quillfeather, Runewright) and woods and herbs (Brambleshaw, Thimbleroot). Lock a surname for a whole family of mages and press for first names.
What was screened out
Every full name was checked against Wikipedia, 27 fantasy wikis including the Harry Potter and Discworld ones, and rude words across the join. Glimmerstone and Wyrmwood were cut as surnames because both are already page titles.
Tips
- For a witch or a hedge wizard, lock a woods and herbs surname such as Nettlewhisk.

Can I get a random wizard name for a game character?
Yes. Press until one fits, then lock the half you like. The names suit tabletop games, video games and stories alike, and none follows one setting's rules.
Why do wizard names sound old-fashioned?
Long, Latin and Greek first names such as Bartholomew, Ignatius and Seraphina sound scholarly, and scholars are what many fantasy wizards are. The made-up surname then adds the magic: a candle, a star or a quill.
Is any of these wizard names used somewhere already?
