How it works
This random orc name generator joins one of 30 harsh openings to one of 24 endings, for 720 orc names such as Krazulg. None copies a Tolkien, Warcraft or game orc we could find.

Pick the sound of the orc
Endings that stop hard, such as nak or thak, sound like a brute; endings with a hiss, such as ath or sha, suit a shaman or a schemer; open endings such as ga carry across a battlefield. Lock one ending for a whole war band, so Gashrok and Zugrok sound like kin.
What was screened out
Every name was checked against Wikipedia, 24 fantasy and game wikis, real towns and rude words. Lugdush, one of Tolkien's orcs, and Kargath, a Warcraft orc, came up, so the opening Lug and Karg went.
Tips
- Give a big orc a short name: one hard syllable plus uk or ug, such as Borzuk.
Questions and answers
Can I use it as an orc random name generator for a game character?
Yes. Press until one fits, then lock the half you like. The names suit any tabletop game, video game or story with orcs, and none follows one game's naming rules.
What makes a name sound like an orc?
Hard consonants such as g, k, r and z, short vowels, and clusters like gr, zg and rk. Tolkien's own orc names, such as Gorbag and Shagrat, work the same way, which is why so many invented orc names sound alike.
Is any of these orc names used somewhere already?
None matched in the lists we searched, but no list of fiction is complete and trade marks were not searched, so search a name before you publish it.
