Scarlet, crimson and the reds between
Scarlet is a bright red with a slight orange tinge, a quarter of the way from red to orange on the traditional color wheel. Crimson is a deep red that inclines to purple. So scarlet and cinnabar read warm, while crimson, cardinal and ruby read cool. Carmine, dark red, firebrick and maroon are darker, and have a group of their own.
