How it works
This random elf name generator joins one of 39 openings to one of 23 endings, for 897 elven names such as Faenethra. None copies a Tolkien, game or book elf we could find.

Lock the sound you want
Endings in a vowel, such as yssa or auri, sound light and flowing; endings in a consonant, such as avar or orin, sound firmer. Lock one ending for a whole family, so Vaelavar and Sylvavar sound related, and press for new openings.
What was screened out
Every name was checked against Wikipedia, Sindarin and Quenya words, and 21 fantasy wikis. Myrelle, a Wheel of Time character, took the ending elle with it.
Tips
- Need a male elf name? Consonant endings such as avar, orin and ilvar suit a warden or a hunter.
Questions and answers
Can I use it as an elf name randomizer for a game character?
Yes. Press until one fits, then lock the half you like. The names suit any game or story with elves, and none is tied to one setting's rules.
Are these real Elvish names from Tolkien?
No. Tolkien built Sindarin and Quenya names from his own word roots; these are made up here and avoid his name parts, such as the endings wen, dil and ros.
Is any of these elf names used somewhere already?
None matched in the lists we searched, but no list of fiction is complete and trade marks were not searched, so search a name before you publish it.
