Name one kingdom or a map of neighbors
Tap a part to lock it or change it alone. Lock Kind on Mountain Kingdom and press New kingdom name for a range of rival crowns. Lock Flag and change Name until the two suit each other. Print 20 kingdoms fills an atlas page.
What the name row holds
Every name is invented and whole; nothing is joined when you press. Many end in -ia, the ending used to form the names of countries, and many in -mark, a medieval borderland, the word Denmark preserves. The list under the tool gives each kingdom's word for its people.
Tips
Give rival kingdoms the same kind and different flags.
Read the ruler line aloud: it is the first plot hook on the map.
Questions and answers
How do I come up with a kingdom name?
Start with a sound, not a meaning, and close it the way countries close: -ia, -mark, -land. Then decide what kind of kingdom it is and who wears the crown. The tool does all three in one press.
Are these names used anywhere else?
Each name was checked against country and town tables, lists of real and fictional countries, Wikipedia page titles and a full-text search of Wikipedia, and any that turned up was removed. No list of fiction is complete, so search a name before you publish it.
Can I use a kingdom in my own story or game?
Yes. The names, rulers and flags are our own invention and free to use. Nothing comes from a published game, book or film, and no rules or numbers are attached, so a kingdom fits any system or none.
How this list was compiled: Our own list, written on 2026-09-30 for this page. The tool builds one kingdom from four rows (kind, name, who rules, flag) and cannot block a combination, so every line in this row was written to sit beside every line in the other three. Every item ends in the word Kingdom and follows "The". Left out on reading because a published setting or a real state owns the phrase: United Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, Old Kingdom, Great Kingdom, Young Kingdom, Last Kingdom, Little Kingdom. How this list was compiled: 70 invented kingdom names, our own work. They are the spare realm names that the writer of fantasy-city-name-generator parked on 2026-09-19 in families/world-building/held/fantasy-city-name-generator-parked.json (108 names; none is in that page's live Realm row), put through the realm screen again on the night of 2026-09-30 to 2026-10-01 before any went live. The screen, by script: the GeoNames tables cities500 and cities15000 with alternate names, the GeoNames island records and countryInfo.txt (https://download.geonames.org/export/dump/, CC BY 4.0); every capitalized word of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_former_sovereign_states, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_adjectival_and_demonymic_forms_for_countries_and_nations and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_countries_by_region, exact and one letter away; the system dictionary and name lists; a rude-word list; a list of invented people and places from published games, books and films; the English Wikipedia as an exact page title; and the English Wikipedia full-text search with the name in quotation marks (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php, list=search), one search for the name and one for its word for the people. The word for the people got the same checks. 38 names were cut: Arvenor (by hand: two letters from a kingdom in a published novel); Bessaria (Wikipedia full-text search finds Bessaria (19th Chess Olympiad)); Bravmark (rude:bra); Cessaria (Wikipedia full-text search finds Cessaria (Ruttelerona cessaria)); Drusane (by hand: close to the name of a real religious community); Felsinia (by hand: one letter from Felsina, the old name of a real city); Fennovar (by hand: Fenno- points at a real people); Holtmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Holtmark (Slow Dance (Anthony Phillips album))); Jorvane (name); Kessovia (by hand: reads as a real country in the Balkans); Lindmark (Wikipedia page title: Lindmark); Lunmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Lunmark (Hot Shots (dance companies))); Malmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Malmark (Bells at Temple Square)); Mardovan (by hand: two letters from Moldovan); Olvane (by hand: the Wikipedia full-text search finds its demonym, Olvanes); Ombrelle (Wikipedia full-text search finds Ombrelle (Jean d'Ormesson)); Ostenmark (by hand: two letters from Ostmark, a name with a bad history); Ostovar (Wikipedia page title: Ostovar); Pennmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Pennmark (The Shoppes at Coventry)); Quenmark (by hand: close to Kvenland, which the earlier screen already found); Querane (by hand: close to the name of a holy book); Rusmark (by hand: built on Rus, a real people); Sarkonia (Wikipedia full-text search finds Sarkonia (Masters of Rock (festival))); Selmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Selmark (Benito Cereno (film))); Sturmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Sturmark (Christer Sturmark)); Thessavia (by hand: one letter from Thessalia, a real region); Ulmareth (name); Ulmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Ulmark (Wawalag)); Vendrane (by hand: Vend is another spelling of Wend); Vestrane (rude:tran); Volanth (Wikipedia full-text search finds Volanthan (Béatrice Graf)); Volmark (Wikipedia full-text search finds Volmark (Robinson Ekspeditionen 2005)); Wendmark (by hand: built on Wend, a real people); Wendoria (by hand: built on Wend, a real people); Wendovar (by hand: built on Wend, a real people); Zandoria (Wikipedia full-text search finds Zandorian (Tower of Babel (1989 video game))); Zeldane (by hand: holds the name of a heroine of a published game series); Zorvia (Wikipedia full-text search finds Zorvia (Emcure Pharmaceuticals)). The seventeen marked "by hand" were cut on reading the results: sixteen passed the script, and one fell to a second search on its word for the people. The fan wiki title pass that the city page ran was not run again. No list of places or fiction is complete, so a visitor should search a name before publishing it. The ending -ia is used in forming place names, especially of countries (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-ia, read 2026-09-30); a march or mark was a medieval borderland, and the name Denmark preserves the word (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_(territory), read 2026-09-30). The words for the people are our own invention. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled: Our own lines. The tool builds one kingdom from four rows (kind, name, who rules, flag) and cannot block a combination, so every line in this row was written to sit beside every line in the other three. Six were written on 2026-09-19 as government lines for a country page that was folded into fantasy-city-name-generator and parked in families/world-building/held/fantasy-city-name-generator-parked.json (foldedCountrySpec.government); they are the six of its twenty that fit a crown: the seven electors, the heir picked by lot, the regent, the prince, the steward and the lord protector. The electors line was shortened by six words. The other fourteen (councils, consuls, senates, judges) stay parked. The rest were written on 2026-09-30 for this page. Each follows "ruled by". Nobody here is a tyrant, and no line points at a real ruler or a real house. Screened by script against every other list on this site and on drawthisnext: no line is on two pages. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled: Our own twenty flags in words, written on 2026-09-19 for the same folded country page and parked in the same file (foldedCountrySpec.flagInWords), where the writer notes that every line avoids real flags. One was changed on 2026-10-01: the black boar became a black otter, because a black boar on gold is a device on a drawthisnext page. The tool builds one kingdom from four rows (kind, name, who rules, flag) and cannot block a combination, so every line in this row was written to sit beside every line in the other three. Screened by script against every other list on this site and on drawthisnext: no line is on two pages. Licence: own work
