    Orc Tribe of the day

    How it works

This orc tribe name generator joins two blunt words into a tribe name, such as Mudjaw or Ashtusk, then adds a word for the group, a totem and a war cry. It follows no game's rules.

    Read the full guide

Lock the name, change the rest

Press New orc tribe. Tap a part to lock it, then press again. Lock the name and reroll the group word to hear it as a clan, a horde or a warband. The same names serve all of them, so the page is an orc clan name generator too.

    What a totem marks

Each totem has a line in the list under the tool saying what it marks. A spear shaft with no head is a promise not to fight inside the camp. A dented helmet full of pebbles gets one more pebble for each new child.

    Questions and answers

What is a good name for an orc tribe?

Two short, hard words joined: something rough, such as ash, rust, mud or flint, and a part of an orc or the noise it makes, such as maw, tusk, fist or roar. Ashtusk, Rustmaw and Gravelroar are all on the list.

What are some orc last names?

In most stories an orc's second name is the tribe's name, so read the name row alone: Mudjaw, Ashtusk, Flintfist, Duskhide, Soothowl. For the first name, use the orc name generator.

What is the difference between an orc tribe, a clan and a horde?

Here they are ten group words on one row, each with a line in the list. A clan is families that all claim the same ancestor, a horde is a huge host on the move, and a warband follows one leader into a fight.

Are these orc tribes from a game or a book?

Not on purpose. Every name was searched in page titles on Wikipedia and on fantasy fan wikis, whole and as a word inside a title, and names with a match were left out. No such search is complete, so look names up before publishing.

How this list was compiled: Our own list of 95 tribe names, each two blunt English words joined, written on 2026-10-02. 1120 joins of 40 first words and 28 second words were built and screened that day: an English dictionary; every other list on this site and its sister sites; a rude-word list read across the join; exact page titles on English Wikipedia; and every word of every page title on 24 fan wikis of fantasy games and books (about 560,000 titles), so that a name inside a title such as a character's full name is caught as well as a whole title. Joins with a match were left out, among them Blackrock, Ironfist, Longclaw and Stonefist; the names here were chosen by hand from the rest. Nothing beyond cartoon level: bones, tusks and noise. No search of this kind is complete, so look a name up before you publish it. Licence: own work
