    Half-Orc Name of the day

    How it works

This half orc name generator deals three parts: a first name, a family or clan name and a byname the character has earned. The lists under the tool mark each first name and family name human or orcish.

    Read the full guide

Human, orcish or one of each

Press New half-orc name and look at the first two parts: Grusk Slater mixes the two sides one way, Conrad Ashfang the other. Tap a part to lock it, then press again for the rest.

Half orc last names and bynames

A half-orc here carries either a human trade surname, with its trade in the list (a slater laid roof slates, a salter made salt), or the name of an orc clan, which is invented. The byname after the comma, such as Two-Hearths, has a line on how it was earned.

    Tips
    • Lock a clan name and press for first names: the human ones are the cousins raised in town.
    • The byname is the story. Read its line in the list before you keep it.

    Questions and answers

    What is a half-orc?

In fantasy games and stories, a half-orc is a character of orc and human lineage. This page follows no single game: the names are for any setting where the two peoples live side by side.

Does a half-orc use a human name or an orc name?

Either. Results mix freely, so one press may put an orcish first name on a human trade surname and the next the reverse. Lock the part that fits how your character grew up and press for the others.

Are the orcish names from a game?

No. Each was made up for this page, then searched as a page title on Wikipedia and on fantasy fan wikis and cut on a hit. None can be spelled by the orc name page of this site.

Why does every name end in a byname?

Because a character between two peoples is often known by a deed, not a family. The bynames come in four kinds: between two peoples, patience, strength and what they do.

How this list was compiled: 69 first names in two groups. The human names are old given names, each checked on 2026-10-02 to have an entry as a given name in English Wiktionary. The orcish names are invented, our own work, screened by script that day and dropped on any hit: every name the orc name page of this site can spell, an English dictionary, United States name and surname files, GeoNames places, every list on this site and its sister sites, a rude-word list read inside the name (https://github.com/LDNOOBW/List-of-Dirty-Naughty-Obscene-and-Otherwise-Bad-Words), English Wikipedia page titles, and exact page titles on 12 fantasy fan wikis (lotr.fandom.com, forgottenrealms.fandom.com, elderscrolls.fandom.com, witcher.fandom.com, dragonage.fandom.com, gameofthrones.fandom.com, wot.fandom.com, harrypotter.fandom.com, wowpedia.fandom.com, pathfinder.fandom.com, criticalrole.fandom.com, zelda.fandom.com). On a second pass that day the names were also searched as exact page titles on 63 more fan wikis (starwars.fandom.com, warriors.fandom.com, finalfantasy.fandom.com and others), and against every page title of 16 fan wikis for a name used as one word of a title (cut) or one letter from the first word of a title (cut where that name is well known). Four old given names were also left out because, with surnames of the family row, they made the names of several people with a Wikipedia article; a pairing of two real names can still match a real person by chance. 17 candidates were cut (7 a fan wiki page title; 4 a name from published fiction, or one letter from it; 3 a Wikipedia page title; 2 a dictionary word; 1 a real place), among them Murga, Sharga, Varsha, Brugha, Urzha, Dhurga. No list of fiction is complete, so search a name before you publish it. Licence: own work

How this list was compiled: 61 family names in two groups. The human ones are English trade surnames: each is in the surname file of the 2010 United States Census, and the trade was checked on 2026-10-02 in the English Wiktionary entry for the word. The orcish ones are invented clan names, two plain words joined, screened as the orcish first names were. 8 candidates were cut (3 a rude word inside or across the join; 3 a fan wiki page title; 1 a dictionary word; 1 a Wikipedia page title), among them Nightdrum, Bearhide, Peatfang, Roper, Longtusk, Stormhide. Three trade surnames were also left out because, with given names of the first row, they made the names of several people with a Wikipedia article. Licence: own work
