What to watch on New Years Eve, by kind
The rating menu under the button opens without R-rated films; choose Every film to add them. More filters adds Kind: Romance, Comedy, Drama, Thriller or Family. Lock a film somebody wants and press again to change the rest.
Where the list comes from
Every film is in Wikipedia's category of films set around New Year, and its own article describes a scene on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. Horror films are left out; Ghostbusters II is here as a comedy. Ratings are the Motion Picture Association's; Not rated means its database showed no entry near the film's release.
Tips
A Not rated film is unchecked, not cleared: most films from before November 1968 have no rating.

How this list was compiled: A list by a written rule, built on 2026-10-03 and worded for this site. A film is listed when it stands in English Wikipedia's category of films set around New Year or in its sub-category of animated films (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_set_around_New_Year, read that day), is a feature film, and its own Wikipedia article describes a scene on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day; the line on the card is that scene in our words, and a script checked every name and number in it against the article. Left out on purpose: horror and slasher films (Ghostbusters II, which its article calls a supernatural comedy, stays), films whose story turns on sexual violence, short and television films, and films whose article gives no running time or no New Year scene we could check. R-rated films are on the list and are marked R. 55 of the category's films are left. Year and running time are from each film's own article (CC BY-SA 4.0). Ratings were looked up one title at a time that day in the Motion Picture Association's database at https://www.filmratings.com/ . A rating is given only where the database has an entry for this exact film, same title or listed alternate title, rated within a year of its release. 30 films are rated (1 G, 10 PG, 7 PG-13, 12 R). Not rated on the other 25 means only that no such entry was found, which is true of most films made before the rating system began on 1 November 1968 and of films made outside the United States; it never means suitable for children. G, PG, PG-13 and R are the Motion Picture Association's marks, reported as published; this site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Motion Picture Association or any studio. The page has no television listings and no streaming links. To be checked again within 12 months.
