How it works
Sunset wedding colors run from gold through pink and orange to purple. Each scheme takes one part of that sky, shown as a swatch with hex codes: golden hour, a pink sky, a beach, a desert or dusk.

Why a sunset has these colors
Air scatters blue and green light more strongly than red. At sunset the light crosses more air, so the blue and green are almost gone and orange and red remain. Photographers call the time shortly before sunset the golden hour, when daylight is redder and softer. Once the sun is well below the horizon the light turns mostly blue: the blue hour.
Reading a sunset scheme
Each scheme runs from its strongest color to its palest, which works as the neutral. Most of the neutrals are warm ones, such as ivory, cream, champagne, linen and sand, so the scheme keeps its glow.
Questions and answers
What are sunset colors for a wedding?
Golds and ambers, pinks and corals, oranges, and the purples of dusk. The color list this page uses has a color named Sunset (#FAD6A5) and two sun colors beside it, Sunglow (#FFCC33) and Sunray (#E3AB57). All three appear in schemes here.
What is a sunset wedding color palette?
A sky color, an accent and a warm neutral: Amber, peach and cream for golden hour, Coral pink, apricot and ivory for a pink sky, or Plum, tangerine, peach and ivory for dusk.
Which sunset color palette suits a wedding on the beach?
The Beach sunset group adds a water color, and often sand, to the sky: Coral, teal, sand and white, Tangerine, turquoise and seashell, or Salmon, cerulean and sand.
