How it works
This name pun generator is a collection of first names and last names that say a phrase together, the way Paige Turner says page turner. Each card spells out the phrase and names a job the name suits.

Pick a pun name by subject
The menu under the button keeps the draw to one subject: jobs, food, weather and outdoors, sport and games, or school and books. Lock a name you want to keep and press again to change the others. Every name is also printed in the full list under the tool, in the same five groups.
How the names were checked
Each first name is in the Social Security baby names file and each last name is in the 2020 Census file of last names, so every card is a name a real person could carry. The puns are old ones with no known author. The crude ones were left out.
Tips
- Say the name fast and out loud: Rollo Oates and Phil Burt only work by ear.
- In some names a middle initial carries the sound, as in Chris P. Bacon and Victor E. Lapp.
Questions and answers
Can this name pun generator make a pun out of my name?
No. It is a collection, not a pun maker: each press deals names from a fixed list. To find one in your own name, say the full name aloud a few times and listen for an everyday word hiding in the sounds.
What is a pun name?
A first name and a last name that sound like an everyday phrase when said together. Paige Turner says page turner, Tom Morrow says tomorrow and Barb Dwyer says barbed wire. Each card prints the phrase, so nobody has to guess.
What are good pun names for a character?
Match the pun to what the character does: Rusty Pipes for a plumber, Sue Flay for a pastry chef, Max Speed for a race driver, Noah Lott for a quiz champion. Every card names a job or person the name suits.
Are the pun names clean?
Yes. The crude pun names were left out, and so was anything about drink, romance or weapons. The list is fit for a classroom, a party game or a name tag.
