Four golds

Metallic gold (#D4AF37) is a flat yellow that stands in for the metal; its code comes from a 1955 dictionary of color names. Old gold is a dark yellow that can lean toward olive brown, a color name since the early 19th century. Goldenrod follows the deeper-colored goldenrod flowers, and dark goldenrod is deeper again.

A dark partner or a pale one

A dark partner, such as navy, burgundy, black or a deep green, sets the gold off. A pale one, ivory or blush, keeps the whole scheme light.
