    Assassin of the day

    How it works

This assassin name generator builds a character for a story or a game from names and disguises: the alias the city whispers, the real name, the trade used as cover and the small object left behind.

    Read the full guide

Build the character part by part

Press New assassin name. Tap a part to lock it, then press again for the rest. Lock the alias and press until the real name sounds like someone who would hide behind it. Lock the cover to staff a whole guild of tea blenders.

    Names and disguises only

Every row is a name, a trade or a harmless object: a paper crane, a chess pawn, a teacup turned upside down. Nothing on the page says what the character does or how. That part is left to your story.

    Tips
    • Give the calling card a reason: who taught them to fold paper cranes?

    Questions and answers

What is a good name for an assassin character?

Give the character two names. The alias is what frightened people say, such as Nine Candles. The real name is plain and short, such as Ines Varro. The gap between the two is the character.

What is a calling card in a story?

It is a small thing a character leaves behind on purpose so that others know who was there. The ones here are harmless: a paper crane, a white chess pawn, a pressed violet.

Why does every assassin here have a cover trade?

A cover gives a story character a reason to be in any house or street. A harpsichord tuner, a skylight glazier or a wallpaper hanger is let in and soon forgotten.

Are these names from a game or a film?

No. Aliases and names are made up, and each was searched as a page title on Wikipedia and on fan wikis of games and films about assassins. A match was cut. The page names no game.
