How it works
This elven name generator with meaning deals five names a press from 200. Every name joins two roots of one made-up glossary of 40, so a root means the same in every name: Vyrenne is keeper of the leaf.

The card gives both roots and their sense together: vyr is leaf and enne is keeper, so Vyrenne is keeper of the leaf. A first root that ends in a vowel takes an l before a second root that starts with one.
A female elf name generator, and a male one
The menu under the button sets the name type. Feminine names end in roots such as -ithe, dancer, and -ora, lady; masculine names in roots such as -ovar, hunter. For a random male elf name generator, set Masculine and press. More filters adds the meaning: forest, stars, water, light or song.
Tips
- A brother and a sister can share a first root: Oshelenne and Oshelovar.
Questions and answers
Is this Tolkien's Elvish?
No. The glossary is our own and is no published elvish language. Every root was checked against the words of Wikipedia's pages on Sindarin and Quenya and replaced on a match.
Does it work as an elven names female generator?
Yes. Set the menu to Feminine: 70 names end in one of seven feminine roots, which mean singer, keeper, dancer, weaver, lady, sister and maiden.
What do the roots mean?
Twenty first roots name a thing: leaf, tree, moss, bough, star, night, moon, sky, river, rain, wave, spring, light, dawn, sun, ember, song, voice, whisper and drum. Twenty second roots name a role, from singer and hunter to child and friend.
Can I make my own name from the roots?
Yes. The full list under the tool shows every root at work. Pick any first root and any second root and join them the same way.
