Random Rap Song Generator: Grammy Nominees and Chart Number Ones

How this list was compiled: Every song is on the list for a fact that can be looked up, not for anyone's taste. The facts were read on 2026-10-01 from English Wikipedia, and each row was compared with the fetched text again by script after this file was written. Two rules: (1) the song won or was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song (2004 to 2026 ceremonies, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Best_Rap_Song) or the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance (1989, 1990 and 2012 to 2026, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Best_Rap_Performance); (2) it reached number one on Billboard's main rap songs chart, read from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_number-one_rap_singles_of_the_1980s_and_1990s, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_number-one_rap_singles_of_the_2000s and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_Hot_Rap_Songs_number_ones_of_the_2010s (1989 to 2019; Wikipedia has no such table for the 2020s, so later years rest on the Grammy rule alone). The act and the release year are the ones in the infobox of the song's own Wikipedia article, each read through the Wikipedia API that day; the year after a Grammy is the ceremony year and the year after the chart is the year the song first reached number one. Songs with no article of their own are left out. The two rules gave 427 songs with an article, an act and a year. Left out on purpose, because children use this site: 37 whose title or act name carries a swear word, a slur or a drink, drug, sex or violence word; 58 credited to an act whose name carries such a word or that we chose not to print; and 110 more after a person read every remaining title and the opening of its article (songs about sex, drink, drugs, crime, a feud or another hard subject, and doubtful wordings). At most five songs stand under one lead act, kept in this order: Grammy winners, songs with both a nomination and a chart number one, other nominees, then chart songs by year; that rule took out 12. The list holds 210 songs: 78 carry a Grammy fact and 152 a chart fact, and a song can carry both. Only titles and act names were read; the words of the songs were not, and many of these records have explicit verses. No lyrics, no recordings and no links to players are given. Grammy and the award names are marks of the Recording Academy; Billboard and Hot Rap Songs are marks of Billboard; they are named here as facts and this site is not affiliated with either. The earliest release on the list is from 1988 and the latest from 2025, counted from the dataset. Review interval 12 months. Licence: own work
